Successful pilot project in The Gambia
September 2005

As from May 2005 a successful pilot project is running in the village of Mandinari, The Gambia. In close cooperation with the villagers, a local operating NGO and a technical service provider we established a WaterPyramid with a total ground space of 200 m.

With the help of the Village Development Committee, a financial scheme was introduced in order to make the project financial sustainable. Local entrepreneurs showed us the way to generate income with the produced water. We developed various water products: 10 liter water jerry cans, small ice-creams, cool water in small nylon bags and mango juice.

Together with our partners we were able to deliver two types of high quality drinking water. First, we produced water using the insight of the WaterPyramid and secondly, we cleaned and purified water using rainwater harvesting method. Testing of both water types proved the extreme cleanness of the products.

Our customers appeared to be delighted by the taste and cleanness of the produced water. Some of remarks of villagers after testing van tasting the water:.......

....... ”Fantastic water for a human being to taste” (Bakary Manneh)

....... ”My family loves this water and so it’s the best in this land” (Lankoi Touray)

....... ”The best water in earth”(Lamin Darboe)

....... ”I am beginning to believe that this water is even better than our water back in Mauritania” (Baba)

Coming months the pilot project in Mandinari will be intensified and new opportunities will be being investigated to expand the WaterPyramid project within the village and beyond.
